Broken Key Loop

One of my MK5 keyfobs has broken off the little key loop at the top of the loop where it joins the keyfob. It's made of plastic or metal that is soft. I've drilled a hole, and wet-sanded it to strengthen it however, I'm assuming that the issue isn't solved by that.

I've also tried wrapping the broken the ring using clear tape, but it didn't work as good. It's really too bad because I use the little ring to hold my keys on the mini-split ring that holds the larger split ring for the keyfobs that I have.

If the key fob's case is damaged It's usually possible to remove the case and replace the battery (assuming the battery isn't already dead).
